Lymphatic Drainage Massage. What is this new buzz massage and does it really have incredible health benefits?
These are the questions I was asking myself when my Instagram feed was latent with celebrities talking about a specialised lymphatic massage they were getting when they were wanting to do things like combat jet-lag, get rid of fluid retention or felt like they were coming down with something. I have a reasonable understanding of the lymphatic system but hadn’t thought about it in the context of ‘draining’ the system through massage and the benefits it could have on my health.
I searched online for a local lymphatic specific massage but soon came to realise that although there are a few out there, this specialised massage also came with a decent price tag. I swiftly put it on the back burner for a time when I thought I would really be in need of these so-called incredible ‘drainage’ benefits. Not long after I had parked the idea I was contacted by Bodyroll Perth wanting to see if I was interested in experiencing what they had to offer.
What is so important about our lymphatic system?
The fluid in the lymphatic system helps remove waste and toxins from the bodily tissues and a lymphatic drainage massage is a form of gentle massage that encourages the movement of this lymph fluid around the body. The lymphatic system helps fight infection and other diseases so it’s important to keep this fluid moving freely about the body.
What is a Bodyrolling machine?
Bodyroll machines combine the healing interaction of slimming and lymphatic massage. The procedure stimulates the lymph nodes which helps remove contaminated substances from the body and improves metabolism, reduces the swelling of the tissues and helps fight lymphatic system disorders such as cellulitis.
The machine itself consists of a rotating drum which when pressed against your body is a highly effecting slimming, body-tightening and relaxing body massage. Bodyroll machines are equipped with infrared and collagen luminaires helping to remove contaminated substances from deep layers of the skin and decrease the cellulite visibility and stubborn fat. It’s also very effective for muscle tension and is the only massage that can be controlled by a person himself. Which brings me to how we use this Bodyroll machine…
When you arrive you change into a specialised outfit. This ensures optimum results and that nothing gets stuck in the rotating drum. You are then taken trough a sequence of exercises and special positions which follow the lymphatic massage principals. You can press as hard up against the drum as you like and make the exercises either relaxing or intense depending if you want a bit of a workout or not. It’s super important that you drink ample amount of water during the session and the seriously lovely owners will make sure you do. They even have an alkaline water option if this extra health boost is something that interests you.
I was super sore the next day but the more your body gets used to it, the less this will happen. Over all, I loved the experience and felt clean, stretched and healthy. The lymphatic system is one of the most important and complex systems in the human body. It’s responsible for cleaning our body by keeping the white blood cells circulating. It’s important to be mindful of this and make sure we give our lymphatic system the love and respect it deserves.
