Who else love’s a good country market? The smell of hot fresh food, the stalls of knickknack’s and vintage clothes, the organic and local produce, kid’s activities and so much more, but if you happen to be city folk then it would usually mean a good few hours travel time to get in on all the country fun.
Last weekend we had a country market itch to scratch so we took a drive out to the recently launched Swan Settlers Markets in the Swan Valley, a very respectable 40minute drive from where we are in the Perth CBD.
We did what any good family does when they first hit the markets, we ate. First on the menu was this yummy smoked meat eatery. We stocked up on fresh seasonal produce and picked an array of seafood from the master fish fillet man himself. Being able to purchase sustainable seafood is very important to us and the fact that we’re saving money at the same time is an added bonus.
We had a moment to taste local wine Holy Mary while the kids had a muck around outside in the sand pit. Next mission was to delight in what ever the stores had to offer. I love all the tastings all the interesting food and learning about so many incredible products that we had never heard of before. There’s so much passion and love in the people behind the stalls I could honestly sit and talk to them for hours. This delicious vegan toffee was so good. It was soft and sweet and crumbled beautifully in my mouth. This recipe had been passed down from her grandmother and she now gets to share it with us.
Once you’ve had your fill of the all the delicious food and drink offerings there’s plenty of craft, oils, plants and gifts available. And what market wouldn’t be complete without a petting zoo.
The Swan Settlers Markets are open Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 5pm and Public Holidays as advertised.
