No matter where you live in Australia, winter weekend getaways are always a good idea.

Here in Perth, we are blessed to have a mountain of options right on our doorstep. From seeking out a crackling fire and exploring wineries in our Margaret River Wine Region to chasing warm rays along the coast up north, but if you’re in Perth there’s one very special winter getaway that is right on our doorstep. Ok, well very close to being literally on our doorstep anyway, and that’s Rottnest Island.

For years there have been very little accommodation options on Rottnest Island other than your typical old beach shacks. Whilst that style of holiday suits a lot of families and couples alike, others were wanting to experience everything Rottnest has to offer but were also chasing more of a luxury, holiday feels where they could enjoy the island in more of a private, nature typesetting.

Nestled in amongst the dunes on Pinkey Beach you will find 83 eco ‘glamping tents’. If you’re a Rotto tragic you will understand this area as the old campsite on the way to one of Rottnest Islands most iconic beaches, The Basin.

The luxury eco-tents are sure to impress in whatever experience you are seeking. The standard tents are as close to ‘camping’ as you will get with the added luxury of a private ensuite and outdoor deck. Add more space and a kitchenette and you have the superior tent, but if a real luxury glamping experience is what you are after then a deluxe tent will be more your thing.  With an added double vanity and a walk-in robe, this is the ultimate in luxury glamping. Some of these tens have uninterrupted views of the beach which will take your breath away.

Discovery Rottnest has their very own on-site restaurant with a head chef boasting guest appearances on Master Chef. Every meal was nothing short of sensational, a real testament to the whole experience. The service from all staff could not be faulted and whilst the winter weather brought with it some intense wind and rain over the weekend, we managed to sneak in a sunset drink on the restaurant deck and some reading on our private balcony.

We spoke to the manager about hiring out the venue for 30ths, 40ths, weddings or just getting a few mates together for a holiday as the venue is perfectly catered for all those occasions. There are even tents you can stay at where the balcony’s join up for more of a group like experience.

Laying in bed and listening to the birds, wind, and rain and hearing the waves roll in was all part of our winter glamping experience at Discovery Rottnest. There’s no mistaking it, you are in a tent! But we as a romantic weekend getaway, super close to home and even closer to nature, we absolutely loved it, an experience we can highly recommend.
