Expand Education. A learning program for students from Pre-primary to year 12 that helps students unleash their potential at school and in life.
Autumn has been seeing a mentor at Expand Education for most of this year. Their fresh philosophy really spoke to me. Through their mentoring education system, they help children find their passion and purpose in life, not just via their grades.
Tory Vidler, Teacher and Founder of Expand Education
I have three children all who are at very different stages when it comes to education and all with very different capabilities. I strive as a parent to have all three of them respecting, loving and wanting more out of their education and ultimately out of their life which is why I’m loving the opportunity that Expand is currently providing for Autumn.
I want to interject here by saying that Autumn enjoys school. She loves her teacher and her grades are good. My decision for her to start working with a mentor at Expand Education didn’t come from me wanting her to be top of the class, it came from me wanting to give her an opportunity to not only learn at school but to be nurtured in a system that really celebrates what makes her tick, something that in a class of 25 odd children is just simply tough to do.
We have had a few ‘growing pains’ with Autumn over the last however many years ( see does my child suffer from anxiety ) and I’m always striving to find ways for her to connect, be confident and resilient but also grounded and this philosophy also extends to her education. I wanted to give her an opportunity to connect with a mentor and use that one on one time to explore education in a manner which is focused on her strengths and her passions. Autumn loves to craft so there is a big focus of learning through craft in her coaching sessions. I have no doubt this is the reason she runs into class every week and it’s so lovely to watch.
Expand Education offers a dynamic ‘coaching’ curriculum where they focus on developing both personal and academic skills preparing students for life. Autumn has been assigned a coach that has been specifically chosen for her and through working with Autumn and understanding Autumn’s personality her mentor is developing a strong relationship with her developing what makes her tick. She is showing Autumn there is a sense of purpose in her learning and helping her become more motivated, confident and resilient which is also a super positive thing to be taking back to her classroom.
Expand Education is about preparing students for the future and as a mother, this is all I could want out of my children’s education. If all three of my children were to finish school and go out and pro-actively fulfil their potential I would be a very happy mother. In the end, this will be up to them, but for now, it’s my job to guide and I’m going to open as many doors for them as possible.
