We all know someone with an allergy, whether it’s gluten, dairy, nuts or that they are choosing the vegan path, we have to be conscious of what we eat and WHERE we can eat.
My mum was diagnosed with coeliac disease over 20 years ago so I know the gluten-free life well. There are many more options now than there were back then but even so, food can still feel restricted and limiting, especially when it comes to sweet treats and pastry.
Located on Newcastle Street in Leederville, local bakery Darrington’s has decided to create an assortment of pastries, cakes, pies and slices, ALL gluten-free and vegan.
Originating at the Fremantle Markets as a patisserie but realising the demand for gluten-free options, they now operate a physical store in a 100% gluten-free environment (coeliac’s rejoice) and as of April this year, transitioned to become a fully plant-based bakery.
Lemon meringue tarts, sausage rolls, pies, quiche, donuts, caramel slice, double chocolate brownie, eclairs and profiteroles are just a few of the items available at this bakery.
Have a special event coming up or want to surprise your gluten-free friend with something they’ll actually enjoy, how about a donut bouquet? You can place orders and they cater for functions too.
Serving up fresh goods Wednesday- Sunday from 8am, give them a visit. We can guarantee your body and your taste buds with thank you for it.
