Chevron City to Surf for Activ.
Follow along with my training at @rayneembley
I’ve had a long-running love affair with Perth’s City to Surf. I ran the 12km with my dad and then friends a few times as a teenager. Back in those days, I could do it on my ear! A big night out before? Not a problem. Getting home at 3am and to the starting line by 7am? Easy! Is there any other way to prepare? Haha. Safe to say that in the current light of day I won’t be partaking in that kind of preparation for the upcoming Chevron City to Surf for Activ.
This year I’ve decided to jump on board alongside Damian Martin and Brant Garvey as an official ambassador for the Chevron City to Surf for Activ. I’ve spent so many years just surviving that I’m proud to finally be in a position where I can give back. The Activ foundation support over 2,000 individuals with disabilities across Western Australia to reach their goals every day. They strive for equality and educate the community that it’s not an us and them mentality, it’s an ‘if it’s important to you, then it’s important to us’ way of life. As a mother of three young children, this is a message I’m proud to be spreading.
I would love for you to sponsor my race and support Activ here.
After a bit of pushing and shoving (verbal) with the other ambassadors at the media launch, my hat’s been thrown in the ring to run the half marathon. I had to jump on it quickly as Damian had claimed the 4km (he really should be running the 12km) and I knew if I didn’t claim it, Brant would. So, from myself to Brant Garvey, enjoy the marathon mate! Hehe.
Training is well underway! But if you’re thinking of running don’t let that put you off. I have some great training tips for you for whatever distance you decide. I’ve built myself up to running non-stop for an hour and fifteen and now there’s only 5 Sunday’s until the big run. My aim? To run non-stop for an hour and a half every Sunday for the next five weeks.
So far my training has been 3 runs per week. One short, hard and fast run trying to incorporate some sort of hill work, a fartlek run guided by my sister and then a long run on the weekend. In between I do a strength class and a stretch or yoga class. My glutes can get weak which puts pressure on my knees so it’s really important I look after my body when I’m training.
I’m sharing a lot of my regime on my Instagram account @rayneembley and I would love for you to follow along over there. What I would love even more is that you jump on board and commit to running the City to Surf with me! 4km, 12km, 21, 42, whatever you can manage, come join us!!
You can start your own fundraising page and if you raise $500 or more your entry fee is waived. My fundraising page is here and I would be honoured if you sponsored my race and supported Activ.
