When was the last time you had a girls getaway? If you can’t remember then you must read on.
When was the last time you had a good and proper girls getaway? If you’re like me, the last time I was asked this question I honestly couldn’t remember. Not a great sign is it.
Before I had a family, female getaways were held of the utmost importance and usually involving some sort of celebratory event. Back in the day (hehe) a girls getaway was all about adventure and experimentation, a kind of ‘right of passage’ that had to be obtained before taking on the multiple responsibilities and expectations that are required of adulting. That being said, I went to a co-ed school so we did have a lot of male friends who would sometimes insist that they join in on all the fun, we were totally okay with that too.
The older we get, the more important our relationship with our close friends become, not only for our relationship with our partners but for our mental health too. Now, at this stage of my life, (let’s just call it mid-adulthood for shits and giggles) a girls getaway represents rejuvenation, a break from everyday life and all too often a sad or ‘pick me up’ event when a friend has gone through some sort of transition or life trauma. There’s something about being in the company of authentic friends that is soothing and replenishing for the soul.
Last month I bit the bullet and invited my sister an impromptu girls getaway weekend to Broome. We had no excuse, no reason, just an opportunity and we took it. Leaving behind 5 small children between us it did take some guts not to find all the reasons that we simply just couldn’t and to not default to the easy ‘no’, but we didn’t. We put our heads together, decided on a date and off we went to the Kimberley Sands Resort in Broome for a luscious, kid and family free 3 days. Bliss!!
If you’ve been reading in these online parts for a while you will have gathered that Broome is one of my favourite destinations in Australia. I’ve been blessed to head up there plenty of times over the years and have made some of the dearests of friends in a tropical paradise.
This trip to Broome, my sister and I flew in for a few lavish girls nights at the Kimberly Sands Resort in Cable Beach Broome. This stunning ‘adults only’ resort (how tactical was that) is situated just a short stroll from the world famous Cable Beach and has all the luxury and amenities you need to not even have to leave the hotel, should that be your holiday thing.
We shared a twin room, had a delicious buffet breakfast every day, worked out in the hotel gym solely to make room for more food and we were spoilt with an incredible Aveda facial and massage with the added peacefulness of sound healing at their in-house Day Spa.
We ate the most delicious French-inspired dinner at the hotel’s in house restaurant, so delicious in fact that we rolled back to our rooms overtaken by a food coma before 8.30pm piking our planned night out on the town. How bliss is that!
We managed to sneak in a Cable Beach sunset, a Sunday lunch at The Wharf to consume the best crispy barra wings I have ever had the pleasure of eating. We did the beer tasting at Matso’s Brewery and woodfired pizza at the Mangrove Hotel. The only missing activity was a game of pool at the Divers Tavern but we have Saturday nights amazing feast to blame for that non-event.
Broome has so much to offer in the way of a holiday and it’s only a two hour flight from Perth with nice and low airline prices for the first time in years, now is your time to plan a girls trip. You’re mental health and overall wellness will thank you for it. Trust me! I feel refreshed, rejuvenated and ready to get back into life. Massive shout out to the Kimberley Sands Resort for having us.
Where will your next girls trip be? We would love to hear from you below.
