I will start by saying that this was probably one of the moments in our relationship where Andrew was least impressed with me ( apart from when I bought home a puppy ). I announced one morning that we were selling our home.
To give you a little background on our home, we purchased it in 2006. When I saw this property I couldn’t resist. It ignited this crazy ambition of mine to renovate, actually not just renovate to OWNER BUILD the renovation. I have always loved property but this place just screamed at me.
So off I went on my mission. I did an owner builders short course, got my licence, employed some great mates of Andrew’s to do the house and project managed one of the hardest jobs I have ever done (not to mention be horrendously ill with our first baby and finish the project heavily pregnant and very hormonal).
We very successfully and in record timing completed a massive project and built our very first dream home.
What an accomplishment.
The house had everything that we dreamed of. 30 course ceilings the whole way through. Double bedrooms, floor to wall steel bi-folds that once they were open you didn’t even know they were there. We had a massive open kitchen/living/dining room with an 3meter long clean and clear island bench (I don’t like sink’s and other bits on my island bench). Our kitchen extended out into the custom build outdoor kitchen designed by Fergusons www.fergusoncorp.com.au
Needless to say we were very humbled and proud of our creation when we finally got to move in and sleep that long awaited first night in our new dream home 30th June, 2009.
So far I clearly haven’t softened the blow for you either as you are probably thinking just like Andrew, why the hell does she want to sell the house!!
Well to answer your questions I will say that ‘life’ got in the way. Firstly the renovating bug, then a baby, then another baby and now another baby!
What was once our dream home now has become a step in the direction of our ‘real’ dream home. I’m not one to become nostalgic or romantic about achievements or projects of this nature, they ignite in me a thirst for more, an attitude that if I could accomplish that then I can’t wait to see what’s next!
So, here I am, a pregnant woman on a mission. On a mission to find a project, a home and to nest. Crazy according to my husband but I cant help but think that maybe, just maybe this is a side about me that he loves…. Maybe when we move into our next home I will get carried over the door way.
