Collagen. It seems everywhere we turn we see celebs adding Collagen to their already highly curated and healthy lives. Why do they all seem to be doing this and is it really worth the expense and all the fuss?

We decided to do a little digging to make up our own minds.

Collagen is responsible for the strength and elasticity of our skin and the flexibility of our bones and by the age of 18 collagen production slowly starts to decline.

Is it beneficial? Well, I guess that depends on who you ask. Some dieticians say that if you are consuming the right about of collagen-rich protein in your daily diet then added collagen won’t do much for your health whilst others hail it to be one of the best beauty forward supplements currently available on the market.

Whilst foods such as fresh fruits, bone broth (our recipe here), wild fish, avocado, eggs and veggies all promote collagen production, if you’re not consuming enough of this every day then adding collagen to your diet just may be what you need to start combatting the signs of ageing.

Collagen can help with:

  • Strengthening nails
  • Support bone density and flexibility
  • Reduce fine lines and wrinkles
  • Thicken and strengthen hair
  • Promote connective tissue formation for healthy joints

So if you’re thinking that the signs of ageing may just be starting to creep in, if don’t think you’re not getting enough collagen-rich foods in your diet or if your body is becoming less resilient then you may want to try adding a collagen supplement into your diet.

What we do recommend is that if you are going to spend your hard-earned dollars on a collagen supplement then look for one that’s 100% pure, ethically sourced and preferably no added sweeteners.

Here are a few that we have had a look into and you can decide which you love for yourself.

Collagen+U – Use RAYNE for 10% discount
Kissed Earth – Rachel Finch’s newly launched collagen supplement
Vital Proteins – Recommended as premium by a nutritionist we follow and very good value for money
The Beauty Chef – Collagen Inner Beauty Boost, stocked by many of our favourite local stores.
