SMOKED SLOW-COOKED PORK BAO BUN’S
Bao Buns are one of those things I ALWAYS eye off when dining out. The soft pillowy buns with so many tantalising fillings gets me every time. From battered fish to slow-cooked beef brisket, satay chicken and of course my favourite vegetarian option, shiitake mushroom, there’s something for everyone.
We love making bao buns at home in the old fashion way. We slow cook marinated pork for over 6 hours, shred and serve and as lovely as it is to go to all this effort, sometimes it’s just too much. Well, it’s my job now to let you in on a little secret. I super quick secret and it’s very, very easy.
Slo Moe’s have a delicious pre-made pulled pork available at your local Woolworths. It’s already marinated and slow-cooked and all you have to do is heat it and serve! Grab a bag of your favourite mixed slaw and you’re pretty much done. Just a little steam, mix and assemble and your buns will be ready in no time.
Slow-Cooked Smoked Pork Bao Buns (makes 8)
1 x packet Slo Moe’s smoked pulled pork
1 x packet pre-made coleslaw (or be fancy and make your own)
8 x bao buns (found at an Asian grocer)
Kewpie mayo to taste
1 x green apple (optional, goes well with pork when grated into the slaw)
1: Steam bao buns
2: Heat Slo Moe’s slow-cooked smoked pork
3: Mix kewpie mayo into slaw and add salt and pepper to taste
You can either put them together and have them ready to go or have it all laid out and your guests can make their own. They always look so fancy and if you don’t want to share, I promise no one will know your secret. It’s between us. Hehe.
Let us know if you re-create them, we’d love to see @rayne_ella!
