The latest wellness trends to try in 2020
It’s a new year, a new decade and a new chance to kickstart some healthy habits. 2020 is the year for self-awareness, tapping into our inner guide and understanding and accepting more about ourselves every day.
Last year we saw a big rise in essential oils, gluten-free diets and digital detoxes. This year there’s a massive focus on making an eco-friendly effort, taking time out for yourself even if it’s only 10 minutes and forming good habits around work, lifestyle and family. This year we want it all! The only difference is we have finally accepted that we need to be smarter in our day to day lives in our quest to get there. Let’s have a look at what you can expect to see this year from exercise to food and family.
Move over Botox and fillers, skincare is back in the building.
Now more than ever we are well and truly up to date with the best skin science. Whether it’s organic or not, expensive or reasonably priced, there’s no excuse not to use skincare that actually works. With a trend moving away from frozen and plump to subtle and expressional, gorgeous skin is one of the best wellness trends we will be seeing in 2020. We will see an investment in the long-term approach to beautiful skin and away from the quick-fix of late. The treatment plan and as well as the products suggested to people for the perfect skin will vary so please make sure you are seeing an expert in dermatology. Here in Perth, we see the queen of skin herself, Kim Tran at La Belle Peau. She has been treating Rayne’s skin for over two years and Rayne couldn’t be happier.
We have seen this become popular in the past few years (thanks Game Changer) not only for the proven health benefits but also the impact it has on the environment at the same time. This year we’re seeing a massive trend in doing our best to save the planet, not just with re-usable shopping bags but taking it one step further. Next time you plan out your meals for the week why not try having a couple of days meat-free? Sub the chicken or beef for some lentils, chickpeas or tofu. Not only will your body be thanking you, but you will also help reduce CO2 emissions, save acres of land, reduce water usage and of course save the animals. Try meat-free Monday to start, it’s not about cutting it all out a once, just start with small steps! We have a delicious eggplant pasta recipe here
What was once seen as “woo woo” is now actually becoming extremely popular and adopted in everyday lives, it’s here to stay. This spiritual practice has now gone mainstream, with studies showing it can improve emotional state, focus and overall wellbeing. Dr’s and physicians all around the world agree and have physical proof that this is the number one form of stress relief for a human. After 6 weeks of meditation, the grey matter in your brain physically increases and if you’re not sure about what that means just know that it’s responsible for memory, emotions, speech, decision making, and self-control which is huge when it comes to our wellbeing.
It may seem intimidating to start but there are so many ways to approach it, there really is something for everyone. With apps, podcasts, books, Youtube and meditation classes you can attend, you will definitely find your groove somewhere. Starting off can be as easy as saying 3 things your grateful for before you start your day or just taking 20 minutes out of your day with no distractions such as your phone, laptop or family to clear your head.
A new year still brings a busy work life, weekend commitments and of course the usual family routine (why couldn’t that have stayed in 2019…). This year we’re seeing a big focus on at-home workouts, something where you can work up a sweat in 20 minutes or less and get on with your day. Whether it’s going for a quick run around the block, Googling some workouts or downloading an app, it’s now more accessible than ever to get your heart rate up and move your body. 2020 is saying goodbye to classes at inconvenient times, a busy gym and expensive memberships and hello to a yoga mat, a few weights and music on your loungeroom floor, all between school drop off or before the house wakes.
This one’s a little different but trust us, you’ll start seeing it online, in magazines and social media..we’re giving you a heads up! Cannabidiol oil (known as CBD) is currently a huge health trend worldwide. You can find CBD in products on your bathroom sink, from beauty products to gin and beer, massage oils and even chewing gum. Medically speaking, CBD has been shown that it may have effects on anxiety and mood, spasticity, seizures, gut and other inflammation in the body, chronic pain, and more.
However, Australians can only legally access it via one of two schemes, the Special Access Scheme or Authorised Prescriber Scheme – both of which require an application and authorisation from the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) and a prescription from your doctor. And no – ordering your CBD oil from another country into Australia isn’t legal, sorry folks.
Whether it’s a small tweak in your diet or taking 5 minutes to yourself, try out some of these trends. Remember small steps make all the difference! Let us know what you’re focusing on this year!
