The latest in Infrared Saunas
What are they and why all the fuss? We investigate.
We have all heard of the benefits of your old school sauna. Sweating, detox, relaxation to name a few, but what are these so-called infrared saunas and why are they hitting all the newest gyms and studios all around town?
We headed to the Clubhouse Sweat Studio in North Fremantle to try one out of the two infrared saunas they have on offer.
Let’s start with the facts, what is the difference between a traditional and an infrared sauna?
A traditional sauna uses convection and conduction to heat the surface of your skin, however, the infrared use infrared heating panels that emit light helping your body to detoxify. The infrared light can’t be seen by the naked eye, but it gives off radiated heat which penetrates deep within your tissues, muscles and cells.
Unlike a traditional sauna, the air in an infrared sauna is a lot drier making it easier to breathe and ultimately a more comfortable experience. Even better, traditional saunas remove about 3% of the toxins in your body where an infrared removes up to 20%, one of my favourite features.
Here’s a look into the many other great benefits.
One of my favourite benefits, removing all those toxins and chemicals from the body. The infrared rays gently heat the body, increasing the core temperature which results in a deep reaction within your body’s cells to assist the detoxification process.
A number of studies have shown that you can burn up to 700 calories per session. As your body attempts to cool itself down, it also increases your heart and metabolic rate = burn more calories.
Sweating improves blood circulation as well as skin elasticity, tone, texture and firmness… something I’m ALL about. At the same time, the pores will reduce as well as blemishes, leaving your skin glowing
Suffering from aches and pains? This is a great way to increase circulation which encourages healing blood flow to trouble areas. I love this when I’ve had a heavy week of exercise and workouts like training for the Perth Chevron City to Surf.
Stress reduction and sleeping
Who isn’t stressed these days and if that’s not tiresome in itself, switching off your mind when trying to sleep only adds to it. One of the biggest benefits from an infrared sauna is relaxation and the chance to de-stress. As well as having 30 minutes of no interruptions, it decreases the production of cortisol, the stress hormone.
The Clubhouse Sweat Studio offers different light settings to target and heals different ailments in the body. This consists of lights specific to weight loss, muscle soreness, skin rejuvenation just to name a few.
We love to try and incorporate an infrared sauna session into our weekly routines. With sessions starting from $40 for 45 minutes it’s a beauty treat your whole body will thank you for.
